We recommend train a bot with a "response list" file, not with chat logs, but you can use either.
Yes, you can create the files with notepad or any other text editor, or create them online in our script library.

The extension is not that important, normally we use .res for a response list file, .log for a chat log, .aiml for an AIML file, and .self for a Self file.
